The Big Reveal!

Thanks for following me on my kitchen remodel! Now for what you've been waiting for - the finished kitchen!

We've actually had some rain here in Southern California so the kitchen isn't nearly as sunny in these pictures as it usually is. We get great morning sun in this room.

Let's see.. I've tried to think of my favorite feature in this kitchen, but there isn't just one. For me, it's all in the details. I LOVE the "x" mullioned doors, the walnut vent hood, the organization, the inset doors and drawers, and the jewelry-like countertop!

I'll start with the mullioned doors. There are so many great styles out there to choose from. Because many of my remodels have a pre-war vibe, I often use a more traditional look like the one seen here (the shade for the sink light hadn't arrived yet, so ignore):

However, I have a more transitional style home and kitchen and felt the "x" style fit the style of my home better. Mullioned doors really open up a space and tend to draw the eyes to the door rather than the contents inside the cabinet. By adding the mullioned doors at the top of an extra tall set of cabinets, we aren't overwhelming the space with the cabinets. It's especially important here because it is opposite of the peninsula, which is much lower in height. I chose not to put them on the fridge wall to save on cost and make the range wall the focal point.

Note that I opted out of putting molding on top. I actually bought a flat molding, but liked it better without it. I think the best bet might be a cove molding if you were to use one.

My painter thought I was crazy staining walnut for the panel ready vent hood. He wanted me to do black. However, I knew from the start this is what I wanted. Wood helps warm up a space and this is the same wood/stain as the table on the opposite side of the room. Granted, the table is a few years older and since it is an oil finish, the colors are slightly different. That will change with time. When using black cabinets, it's really important to incorporate elements to warm it up. In this kitchen, that's the vent hood, gold hardware, and cream and gold countertops.

In the previous post, I discussed what I love about the countertops. I took a few more pictures I'll share here in case you would like to see more details. As one visitor said, it looks like a bunch of diamonds smashed together! You can also check out the video below for more views.

Next I want to show you some of the organizational accessories we installed. I think pictures say it all! (Don't judge my old pans, etc!)

If you want more information on these organization items, visit my previous post about organization and there are links to the products. I also talk a little more about them in my video below, but first a few more kitchen pics! (The top light in the middle works. I just accidentally put something over it.)

Finally, I quickly put together a video of the organization pieces to give you a tour. Thanks for joining me on this journey! I hope you found things to incorporate into your next project. Enjoy!
